Lipomas are slow-growing, benign (non-cancerous) fatty tumors commonly found between the skin and the underlying muscle layer. They typically feel soft and doughy, and they can easily move under slight finger pressure. Lipomas are usually painless but may cause discomfort if they press against nearby nerves or blood vessels. Lipomas are the most common type of tumor that forms beneath the skin, occurring in about 1 in 1,000 individuals. They are often found in the upper body, arms, or thighs.
